Another great read from Fiona, I love all of her books. Her descriptive writing takes you to the destination of where she sets the scene and one feels like they are there with the characters.

While I usually love the way Ms McIntosh writes, I found I did not enjoy this story as much as her others.
Telling the story of Clementine, an English heiress from a wealthy family, I found "The Diamond Hunter" a little confusing. The story begins in Africa in th e 1870's during the diamond rush when Clem was seven. Her mother died, her father became inconsolable and took to drinking. Clementine was looked after by a Zulu warrior whose name was unpronouncable, so the young Clem called him "Joseph one-shoe". He worked the diamond claim with Clem's father and became part of their family.
Uncle Reginald arrived from England to bring Clementine home to meet her dying Grandmother. During the initial visit between the brothers-in-law there was an accident and Clem's father dies. Uncle Reginald takes her home to England and raises her as his own daughter.
After nearly two decades in England, there is much intrigue and mystery. Clementine is a wealthy woman in her own right and has chosen not to wed - she is waiting for love as her parents did. A new suitor, debts, lies and betrayals re-open old wounds. Sometimes it may be better to let sleeping dogs lie. There can be different versions of truth. Sometimes forgiveness is the hardest thing, love is easy but can be painful.
A well-crafted story that did take until the last third to really capture my interest. Sometimes you have to come full circle to come home and be happy. - Kerryn (QBD)
