A Celebration of Australia's Best-loved Radio Program for Children
Calling all Argonauts! Join the band of happy rowers once again and relive the glory days of Australian radio, when Jimmy, Jason, Elizabeth, Mac and Nan ruled the airwaves.
In the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, children all over Australia dropped whatever they were doing at 5.30 each afternoon and raced to the radio set for an hour of stories, songs, jokes, information and fun, meant just for them. Children between the ages of 7 and 17 could join the Argonauts Club, be allotted a ship name and number, and submit work - stories, drawings, poems, anything creative - which could be read out or discussed on air. At its height in the mid-1950s, the club had over 100,000 members.
'The Golden Age Of The Argonauts' is the fascinating history of a unique, much-loved program, a tribute to a time when life was simpler, more innocent and full of fun.
