Waking alone on a moorland road at dead of night, Sefira can remember only two things - her name, and the fact that she has committed murder.
Grendon, an official in the new king's play, finds Sefira and, recognising the secret horror locked away in her damaged mind, offers to save her from death at the stake. He has a hidden agenda of his own, for the hungers and supernatural powers alive within Sefira, of which she in unaware, will be a bait the king cannot resist - and one which Grendon must learn to manipulate. Sefira's only chance of survival is to walk the narrow and treacherous path between political machination and supernatural evil - but there's a high price to pay . . .
