As the tyrannous dictate of Napoleon ravages Europe, the rural workers of west Yorkshire are waging a battle of equal ferocity. Spirited mill owner, Shirley Keeldar, struggles daily with the Luddite uprising - the threat it poses to her estate and to the livelihood of her faithful labourers.
Happenstance introduces the ruggedly handsome Tom Mellor to Shirley. Their obvious attraction strengthens with each meeting but societal differences dictate that this relationship remain hidden. A gentle and caring soul Tom may be, but he is a Luddite.
As opposing members of the class war, Shirley and Tom unite to eradicate the entrenched thoughts and actions of the Luddites and the land owners, and through their shared adoration of the land, the passion they share for one another may be allowed its freedom.
