Tom's amazing adventures unfold amidst the chaos and horrors of the Hundred Years War. Edward III has taken the largest army ever to ravage France and intimidate the French into crowning him king. But the concerns of our hero and heroines are more immediate.
Tom and his best friend Ann are joined by the haughty but mischievous Lady Emily, in their headlong dash through the turmoil that was France in the mid-fourteenth century. Love is in the air as Tom continues his quest to become a knight in shining armour and to fulfil his dreams of tournaments to be won and distant lands to be travelled. But Tom is called upon to use his great talents to help the starving people of France and with the giant Anton is persuaded to make a detour to visit none other than his Holiness the Supreme Pontiff, Pope Innocent VI.
