Fourteen-year-old Ben who has been hiding out in his parents bomb shelter to pay his parents out, has no idea what has been happening. When he finally emerges, he finds he is the only person left in the world – or is he?

Amidst the destruction, he notices freshly painted graffiti, indicating that somebody else is alive. But are they an enemy or friend? Ben's doubts and fears are recorded in his diary which gives this book great immediacy and poignancy.
