Zippo the clown is the oldest person in the circus, and so it's his job to look after all the circus children while their parents practise their acts. Zippo doesn't need to practise. He's been a clown for so long he can make people laugh in their sleep. But sometimes at night in his caravan, looking out at the moonlight, Zippo feels sad. Being the last clown can be a lonely job.
Then something happens to little Max, the tightrope walker, and the old clown has an idea - a brilliant way to keep Max in the circus and to make sure there will always be clowns to make the world laugh.
