Former policeman David Wade had two ambtions in life... to beat cancere and to will the Sydney Swans to a premiership title before he died. Only one came true.
The man in the box is the story of Wade's brave fight and the unheralded Sydney Swans tema that grew to know him and believed in him as they made an unlikely charge for the 2005 title.
David decided to contact his hero, Sydney Swans coach Paul Roos, and asked him to win the premiership before he died. Easy? 'The Bloods' as they were traditionally known before they relocated to Sydney and became the Swans, had not won a premiership since the 1930's.
But against all the odds, the Swans did just that. The club's run to the 2005 AFL grand final was made all the more special because David Wade travelled with the team to every game and sat alongside Paul Roos in the coach's box.
David Wade passed away in 2006 and the Swans lost the 2006 grand final in a nail-biter, but not before David put pen to paper and wrote this amazing story of life, love and friendship.
