James Matlock, professor of English at Carlyle University, is appointed by the US Government to investigate what seems to be a large-scale drugs and prostitution business. Matlock has a motive for accepting the job: his younger brother died from an overdose of heroin.
Would he have accepted the assignment if he knew the mental and physical agony it would bring his beloved Patricia? Would he have accepted if he knew the terror it would bring to his own life and to the people around him?
