Hannah is 15 and in Year 10. She is at a point in her life where she must make choices and confront challenges.
Since the death of her sister, Sally, Hannah's parents have been suffocating her with rules and restrictions - which only seems to make Hannah behave more irresponsibly. Her best friend Ashlyn is doing drugs and behaving recklessly, and Hannah only wants to fit in. But when her boyfriend Jesse puts pressure on her to have sex, Hannah can't help but pull back - and gets dumped.
Crushed by the loss of Jesse, the impending separation of her parents, and the tragic loss of Sally, Hannah decides to go away for a weekend with her parents to their holiday beach house in Jamaica Lane. Here she is comforted by new friends and memories of Sally . . . but it takes a few scary incidents before Hannah can choose what is real and genuine, and move to a new level of maturity.
