An old man suffering from the terrible and implacable advance of Alzheimer's is found dead, an empty vial of morphine by his side: obviously suicide. Or did someone - a loving son, perhaps - help him die? Who would blame him?
But when the police come sniffing around, Graham Russo insists he had nothing to do with his father Sal's death. It becomes increasingly hard for Graham to protest his innocence, however, when the police discover Sal was not as penniless as commonly thought - and find a large amount of money in Graham's safe-deposit box.
Attorney Dismas Hardy isn't sure whether Graham is telling the truth or not. And he certainly doesn't want to get involved in any more messy murder trials. But when Graham asks for his help, he finds it impossible to say no, particularly when the engaging young man becomes the pawn at the heart of the media issue of the year . . .
