The origins of the cards of Ra-Maat – the Oracle of the Pharaohs – are almost impossible to trace. It seems clear that the oracle was taught by Egyptian priests to their initiates, but the symbols and inner meanings were only ever passed on by word of mouth.

Based on evidence found in tombs and in the Egyptian Books of the Dead, the cards are dedicated to Ra, the God of the Sun, and Maat, the Goddess of Order, Truth and Judgment, who was represented by the symbol of a white feather.

The Oracle of the Pharaohs takes the user, the reader or the student of Egyptology through the same journey that we all face, the journey through life. The cards offer the same protection today as that offered by Ra to the ancient Egyptians.

Similar to the Tarot, the cards are shuffled and laid down, and their images and associations reveal the energies within us. The cards represent the human being. They indicate how we react to our environment, they give advice – but they always allow for the concept of free will. They help us to penetrate the shadows of the future so that we may steer a safer course. It is true that the future is based on our actions in the here and now, but if we act on the advice of Ra and Maat there is less to fear and more to gain.
