Greasers, Rockers, different place, different name - but wherever they are, they're outsiders; the rough, tough, long-haired boys from the other side of town, with little hope of flash cars, fine madras shirts and the good things of American life in the Sixties. Their story is told by Ponyboy, a Greaser with good reason to fear the Socs, the rich kids in Mustangs who come looking for trouble, and witness to the savage baiting that drives his best friend to manslaughter. More than a story of hatred and violence, this is also a story of loyalty and friendship as teenagers of the urban slums search for personal dignity and a place in the world.

Stay Gold Ponyboy! A classic for a reason- I first read this as a Year 8 student all the way back in 1980 something! A story of 1960's gangs and their bonds to each other. In this case, they were more like family than anything else. An emotional tale of loyalty and belonging that is just as relevant today as when it was first published. - Susan (QBD)

The Outsiders
Honestly one of the most engaging books I've ever read, how S.E Hinton never really finishes a chapter really kept me wanting more. The whole story was moving and I now really see how little society has changed since this time period. The book touched on many social and acceptance issues that are present today for teens and after reading I can see that other then technology nothing has really changed. This novel is well written and such an easy read. If your looking for a book that mentions some of the issues of society subtly, then this is definitely one that I would recommend. TBH I may have cried at certain points????

The Outsiders is one of those books that I wish I'd read sooner. This book is about an engaging gang of young boys living in Oklahoma who are struggling with conflict one minute, and hugging one another the next. I devoured it in one sitting! Heart-warming and heartbreaking, this book is a special one. - Holly (QBD)
