Two British families have lived on Mallorca since 1945. Lulu Davenport and Gerald Rutledge met and swiftly wed, very shortly after he had returned from war service. Something, some happening, in that shortest of marriages, set up a feud which none of the succeeding generations could understand.
The two of them met rarely over the next decades, but their and their families' lives seem poisoned by the original deed and its subsequent layers of fallout. Lulu Davenport runs the Rocks, a well-established chic hotel to which legions of interesting Brits throughout the decades come summer after summer, and Gerald becomes an olive grower and pillar of the Spanish community on the island. But what of their next marriages, their children, and the way that life and customs even in Mallorca change over the decades?
