This call for help from her mother has high-powered publicist Mary out of New York on the highway for the two-hour drive to Burns Lake. As she drives, she looks back over the past thirty years: at her marriage at seventeen to Charlie, the choice she made to leave him, the suicide of her best friend Corinne, and her escape from Burns Lake. She and Charlie search for evidence to discredit Robert, and save their grandchild Emma. But even they are unprepared for the horrors they uncover.
