It is so easy for us to imagine we are living in the immediate power of the Holy Spirit, especially if our lives are comfortable and going just as we would wish them to.
But the Spirit, like a turtledove, has an unpredictable, sensitive nature. Unlike a pigeon, though in the same order of birds, a turtledove is difficult to train, seldom quarrels and will rarely settle in a particular home. Likewise the Spirit will follow his own path and, if we are not prepared to go with him, will move on without us. In the meantime, we may be at home with an imitation.
This is the forgotten aspect of God's anointing, a side of the Spirit's nature that has been widely ignored by Christians.
'The Sensitivity of the Spirit' is a stunning book of biblical teachings on the Holy Spirit, and crucial reading for all who seek to live a Spirit-led life to the full.
