Hodder are boosting Stephen King's backlist with new covers, new author branding and a marketing campaign that directs readers to the right King title for them.

Danny is only five years old, but in the words of old Mr Hallorann he is a 'shiner', aglow with psychic voltage. When his father becomes caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, Danny's visions grow out of control.

As winter closes in and blizzards cut them off, the hotel seems to develop a life of its own. It is meant to be empty. So who is the lady in Room 217 and who are the masked guests going up and down in the elevator? And why do the hedges shaped like animals seem so alive?

Somewhere, somehow, there is an evil force in the hotel - and that, too, is beginning to shine . . .

The Shining
This is, by far, my favourite book of all time. It’s the first good horror I ever read and I loved every page of it! Although it sounds strange to say about a book written by the King of Horror, The Shining brings me comfort and retreat when I need it, and it’s one of those books I just keep coming back to.

Stephen King is a giant in the horror world, and for good reason. Yes, his books are scary - terrifying, even - but it's his deft touch with language and his well rounded, believable characters that really set him above his contempories. Anyone can make you scared, King's novels can also make you laugh and cry. The Shining is a perfect example of this - no cartoony villain, Jack Torrence can be startlingly sympathetic in his descent into madness in the depths of the Overlook Hotel. And Danny is one of the greatest child heroes in modern literature - scared but brave, filled with determination to escape the hotel and save his mother. Even if you've already seen the movie I can't recommend this enough. Five bone chilling stars! - Rebecca (QBD)
