Toni Packer is a former Zen teacher known for her clarity, her simplicity, and for her spiritual independence. Influenced by the teachings of Krishnamurti, she has turned away from the traditional religious forms and hierarchies of Zen.
'The Silent Question' consists of talks, dialogues, essays, and letters in which Packer presents her unique method of meditative inquiry - a nondenominational approach to spiritual growth through direct awareness of the present moment. Packer encourages us to let go of our thoughts and to sit ?in the stillness of not knowing? in order to reflect upon the essential question of who we are.
In 'The Silent Question', Packer provides fresh insights on using the experiences of life that are raw, messy, painful, and sometimes full of laughter to open a way to compassion. Her writing, which has been praised for its eloquence and insight, shows us how we can transform our self-image, fear, anger, or guilt through simple, direct awareness. Packer encourages us to discover that life, energy, and insight come from questioning, looking, and listening.
