Nakita, the twelve-year-old Stonekeeper's daughter, lives in the enclosed village of Eagle Rock, on a remote plateau high in the mountains where there is little contact with the outside world. As the official Stonekeeper, Nakita's father guards a collection of sacred stone, and conducts mysterious secret experiments with them for his master.
Frustrated by her narrow life, Nakita yearns to see what lies below the mountain. When she discovers a cave leading into the mountain's depths, she seizes her opportunity, and begins to secretly tunnel a way out. Soon after, a combination of circumstances, curiosity and an overwhelming attraction leads her to transgress the taboos of her family and village. When she yields to temptation and picks up one of the sacred stones her father guards so jealously, her life changes dramatically. And when her tunnel is discovered by two strangers, a series of events catapults her into the valley below, where she discovers the world is much stranger than she had imagined.
An exciting adventure of courage and imagination set in a world of wizards, magic stones and dragons, the story of Nakita the Stonekeeper's daughter will delight Linda McNabb fans and be enjoyed by children who love fantasy.
