The Summer of '82 is a humorous memoir from comedian Dave O'Neil. It covers the ten week period from when a 17 year-old Dave finishes his last HSC exam, til he gets his results. It's a period of life when there are some big questions looming: will Dave pass Year 12 and get into uni? Will he fail and have to get a trade like his Dad always wanted? Will he finally build up some courage and pash Cindy Roberts? Will he ever get out of the shadow of his overachieving twin brother Glenn? Will he save enough money to go and see his favorite band Devo at Festival hall? The Summer of '82 is an exploration of that universal threshold period of life between childhood and adulthood and an investigation of a suburban upbringing in Australia in the Seventies and Eighties.
