In MEMORY BOY, Miles, his sister Sarah and their parents flee their suburban home in the violent aftermath of a devastating volcanic eruption.
In this story, Miles and Sarah finally begin to adapt to life in a crammed abandoned cabin in the woods. Sarah decides to attend the town school, where she is forced to pretend she is a local to avoid being cast out by her classmates. Miles, who is more nature savvy, decides to stay home to prepare the scanty cabin for winter. When Sarah's peers discover she is not actually a local, she is forced out of school, and Miles must teach her survival skills so she can endure the bitter winter. Even though the family is prepared for the cold, a dire accident ultimately teaches them just how dangerous living in the wilderness can be.
