First published in 1812, The Swiss Family Robinson is one of the earliest adventure books, alongside Robinson Crusoe and Gulliver's Travels. The story of the Swiss family that shipwrecks in the East Indies and spends several years on a desert, tropical island, building a tree house complete with a library, has inspired countless stories, movies, television series and a Disneyland attraction, and remains an all time favourite of teens and young adults around the world.
