A Novel of Love, Art and Cricket Fighting.
Colin Chandler works for the National Trust as the Chairman of Significant Trees. He lives with his Pekinese dog, Tu-fu, in an inner-city apartment, and is self-sufficient and reasonably content. But Colin is a man of obsessions, especially when there are connections with China, like the beautiful young gallery assistant, Kathryn Hu, or an old, slow-growing Honey Locust tree in the centre of town.
When he stumbles upon/finds an invitation to an exhibition of Chinese court costumes and artefacts, he's excited and rather curious. The exhibition brings him to Kathryn Hu, but it also hurls him into a mysterious ancestral web harking back to Imperial China and the first immigrants of the goldrush days.
Unbeknown to Colin, everything is connected.
'The Tree' is a funny, moving and sharply-observed debut novel by an outstanding new talent.
