The Polish nation despite, or perhaps because of, its turbulent history has always held poetry and the making of poetry in very high esteem. On occassions it was the poets who took on the mantle of its spiritual and patrioctic leaders. This extraordinarily rich heritage has not been generally available in translation to western readers. Marcel Weyland, nurtured in early teens on Polish, has made it his mission to make this poetry better known, and has succeeded in perserving its message, rhyme and rhythm.
