Neil Redfearn is a man dedicated to -- some might say obsessed by -- football. He's just about the last of the generation of players who began near the bottom, made it to the top and then moved back down the ladder again.
He has seen promotion to the Premiership (with Barnsley and Oldham) and relegation from the Football League (with Halifax); made nearly 1,000 senior appearances over a quarter of a century and scored just short of 200 goals. He talks about the managers he has played for -- including Brian Clough, Alan Curbishley and Joe Royle -- as well as some he hasn't: Aresene Wenger once described him as the dirtiest player in the Premiership.
Still playing past the age of 40 and poised to move into full-time management, Neil Redfearn has a unique perspective on what it's like when football literally becomes your life.
