Before Thoroughbred, Ashleigh Griffen lived at Edgardale, her family's farm in Kentucky. Nothing could be more perfect than life on the farm with her family, her favourite horses, and her best friend, Mona. Ashleigh loves helping with the horses - and dreaming of becoming a jockey some day . . .
Ashleigh and Mona start to compete at horse shows. Despite Ashleigh's nervousness, Stardust is a talented jumper, and the more they show, the more confident Ashleigh becomes. Ashleigh enjoys the challenge of learning something new, but her heart isn't really in it. She wants to race.
When Mona pressures her to compete in top-rated shows, Ashleigh can't resist meeting the challenge. In a fluke accident, Ashleigh must ride like a jockey, proving to herself and everyone else that she just isn't suited to the horse show world. Ashleigh was born to race thoroughbreds!
