It is 1708. Matthew Loftus has come a long way since his first skirmishes with privateers and pirates; he has found honest employment working as a fur trader sailing the icy waters off the Newfoundland coast.
Then his old adversary the English Navy sails into the bay and orders Loftus to sail a perilous rescue missing to the frozen reaches of Hudson's Bay. Soon it becomes clear that there is another agenda - to foil the French, whose own Navy is on its way to fight for supremacy of the Canadian waters.
When trouble follows, Loftus must navigate his own way back through the hostile waters of the Canadian coast and regain his ship and his fortune.
