The Torres Strait Islands celebrates the art, culture and history of Torres Strait Islanders and the outstanding related collections and performance programs of the major arts organisations located at South Bank, Brisbane.
A testament to the ongoing significance of Torres Strait Islander culture, this beautifully illustrated book features objects, paintings, photographs and documentary materials drawn from the collections of the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, the State Library of Queensland and the Queensland Museum, as well as from the programs of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
Published to coincide with The Torres Strait Islands: A Celebration, a cross-precinct series of exhibitions, performances and events held at the Cultural Centre, South Bank, 1 July - 13 October 2011, and including the exhibition 'Land, Sea and Sky: Contemporary Art of the Torres Strait' at the Gallery of Modern Art.
