When a young man addresses eighteen-year-old Alison as Ali, a name used only by her close friends, she believes it to be a case of mistaken identity. But later in a bar another young man greets her by the same name, saying that her dark hair doesn't suit her. Alison was adopted as a child and begins to think she may have a twin sister who has moved into her neighbourhood and is dating a string of men. Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, she dies her hair blonde and adopts the other girl's identity. Alison is a shy girl but playing the role of her promiscuous sister plunges her into an underworld of seedy bars and depraved sex and the experience rouses her inner desires. Before long she is revelling in her new-found life of sexual abandon. When Alison finally meets her illusive counterpart, she makes a shocking discovery. Now she must decide her direction in life. Either she can revert to the refined young lady she once was or pursue her darker sexual needs.
