Caught in thick fog over Kent, a damaged Lancaster bomber returning from Germany desperately strains to land. But moments from the airbase, a second bomber materialises in front… Just as the crew resign themselves to collision, their forerunner swoops out of the way and the grateful crew survive to meet their unlikely saviour – a female ATA pilot.
Grace Baker's aviation skills and introduction to the Lancaster bomber, 'Tuesday's Child', are not the only surprises she brings to the lives of the seven crew members… Staying in their billet while delivering planes to a nearby air base, Grace demonstrates an unusual attitude towards relationships, casually using her sexuality to entertain the men. Then Pete – rear gunner and black marketer – absconds and Grace is secretly elected to take his place in Tuesday.
