Lisa du Pont has loved living in New York since arriving from Australia as a young bride. Over the years she's developed a successful writing career and remains happily married - or so she thought . . .
With the arrival of a significant birthday (ending with a zero), Lisa's life is turned upside down when she discovers her husband is having an affair. Initially devastated, but uninterested in joining the first wives' club or pestering her adult children, Lisa decides to move back to Australia.
After just a couple of weeks staying with her annoying older sister in Melbourne, Lisa escapes for a relaxing drive to the country. When she comes across the ramshackle old mansion that belonged to her ancestors and discovers it's on the market it feels like she's meant to live there.
After buying Fernley Manor, Lisa gradually takes on the huge task of renovating it with just a one-eyed cat and cockatoo for company. But it's not long before she starts meeting new people and having fun.
