Lick Holden is a real smooth smokestack who plays the new jazz music in Louisiana's good-time tonks. Folk call him Lick on account of how he blows that horn so. The twentieth century is just coming up for air when he hits the road to find his sister who, way he knows it, ain't no blood relation at all . . .

One hundred years later: Sylvia is a coffee-coloured ex-hooker, London bred but Louisiana bound, who sets off across America in search of her past, which turns out to be rooted in the Southern bayous. Trouble is, her only companions are Jim, a white boy who thinks the twelve bar blues is a drunken tour of America, and Musa, an African witchdoctor who fears for his toes.

Sylvia doesn't know how this tune will unfold but it will sure make one hell of a story!
