Three new ancient and late antique Egyptian medical sources, now translated for the first time.
A substantial addition to the limited body of ancient Egyptian medical records, Two Medical Manuscripts makes available for the first time a complete translated edition of three medical texts. On the verso and recto sides of the P. Carlsberg 8 manuscript, the first two texts are concerned with ophthalmology and gynecology; the third text, from a separate manuscript, is a Coptic treatise on how to treat a variety of ailments. Together, these manuscripts significantly expand our understanding of pre-modern medical practices and conceptual worlds.
