Reminiscent of Evelyn Waugh, this gentle novel considers how a relationship can work when those concerned have less in common than they once thought. How well can you ever know another person? Happy with each other, Reginald and Sylvia think they just want the quiet life. They have more than enough money and their own country house. But when success overtakes them, and the draw of the city, they find parts of themselves they never knew. Where does their happiness really lie? A gentle, brilliantly thoughtful story for the ages.
