My Everest Odyssey.
Goran Kropp's goal was to reach Mount Everest on his own and challenge it unassisted. In October 1995, he left Stockholm on a bicycle to travel 8,000 miles to Katmandu, towing 240 pounds of gear. Five months later, he reached the base of Mount Everest.
He tried for the summit once and failed, but - despite the tragedy that claimed the lives of 8 climbers that occurred a few days later - Goran remained determined, and on May 23 he made it, having refused any assistance or supplemental oxygen - the most self-sufficient combined approach and climb of Everest ever accomplished. Within days, he began his return trip to Stockholm - again by bicycle.
'Ultimate High' captures the brutal realities and perils of climbing at the world's highest altitude and offers a fascinating insight into the mind of a man who risked his life for adventure. It is a testament to passion, determination, and the sheer instinct to survive in the face of overwhelming odds.
