Each day, all unwanted dogs in the dog pound watch as people walk up and down looking into cages. "Pick me, pick me", they bark at the top of their voices, but no one picks the little dog labelled Unknown. She is the same colour as the shadows and blends right into her cage - most people don't even realise there is a dog in there.
The one night, a tremendous storm hits the dog pound, and the lightning causes a fire. The biggest dog in the compound, Grown-Too-Large, howls and yells, "No one will come to help us". Unknown realises it is up to her to save the day. Scratching furiously, she manages to dig her way out of her cage and alert a nearby house. After the dog pound is saved, Unknown is treated as a hero and finally chosen by a family.
