Paul Nash (1889-1946) was originally trained as a painter and was an official war artist in both World Wars, but he was also known for his wood engravings and posters. His painted landscapes, often depicting scenes of devastation, were frequently imbued with powerful symbolism and his engravings depict similar evocative imagery.
