This book details the period from D Day to the fall of Berlin. When VE Day dawns on 8th May 2020 it will be 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. Years of carnage and destruction had come to an end and millions of people took to the streets to celebrate peace, mourn their loved - ones and to hope for the future, but not forgett ing those still in conflict. On 7 May 1945 the formal act of military surrender was signed by Germany, ending the war in Europe. The next day celebrations broke out all over the world to mark Victory in Europe or VE Day. In Britain, Churchill marked the occasion by declaring 8 May a public holiday. The 75th anniversary will provide our nation, and our friends around the world, with an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who saw us through this dark and terrifying period. To commemorate this important time the Bank Holiday in the UK has been moved to May 8th 2020 and celebrations will take place throughout the U.K. and Europe. The pubs will have extended opening hours and VE Day 75 will be a three-day international celebration that will take place from 8th May to 10th May 2020.
