The third book in the Heart trilogy.
Libby O'Malley runs a boarding house in Thief River. With her adopted daughter Dawn, she has settled into a nice life since her husband's death. But things are turned upside down when Dawn's natural father, Jackson Wolfe, strolls into Thief River as sheriff and decides that after 12 years, he wants his daughter back. Jackson has been living with guilt over leaving his newborn daughter Dawn Twilight with her Indian people after her mother was killed by renegades. He didn't believe he could care for her. But Dawn was shuffled here and there before Libby found her as a 6 year old. So now, with Dawn telling them they should marry, Libby and Jackson must forge some kind of truce. In addition, Jackson has his own problems with renegades and his family issues left unresolved. Libby wonders if a marriage with this man she finds so attractive will work. But for Dawn, Libby will do anything...
