The Wayne Harris Story.
A true champion's amazing tale of guts and glory.
Has an Australian champion ever succeeded against greater odds than jockey Wayne Harris? As an apprentice he won the Golden Slipper and a record number of other winners. It seemed his would be a charmed life. But then came the first of the incredible setbacks that would have made almost anyone else give up.
At just 22, Wayne was diagnosed with a brain tumour and told he'd never ride again. As he would over and over, he proved the experts wrong and returned to the track and his winning form. He went on to suffer, and recover from numerous broken bones, an amputation and an infection that nearly killed him. He not only "got back on that horse", he won the Melbourne Cup. But fate was not finished with him yet.
Wayne then developed a second brain tumour, against all expectation, and meningitis that almost proved fatal. Showing awe-inspiring heart, he managed a comeback from that, too. He made it through with the love of his wife, Linda, and the support of the racing industry. 'Riding On Courage' is the story of Wayne's remarkable journey and his career at home in Australia as well as in Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. It offers a uniquely personal view of a man whose lifelong bravery and determination is nothing less than inspirational.
