The vehicle of a definitely cavalier feminism, Baker writes in a racily knowing tone, self-mocking, rueful and rude all at once. Her characters, particularly the women, on whom she concentrates her interest, are convincing and engaging ones. 'Women And Horses' poses serious questions, looks at the chaos and suffering in a modern woman's life, and above all is entertaining.
