A Historical Approach
What are some of the stories about women in the Bible and what do these stories tell us about God? This book focuses upon women's stories in the context of the biblical world. It offers a new approach to learning about Scripture. Each chapter contains biblical references and a range of activities suitable for individual or group work.
The book is divided into three parts: the first, Daily Life, creates the historical context for studying women in the Bible. The social role of women and the significant events in their lives are explored along with the more practical details of everyday life. The importance of their work and their connection to religion is examined and reveals the essential role women played during this period.
Part two, Women From The Old Testament (or Hebrew Scriptures), focuses on biblical stories from this historical period. The stories include Eve, Deborah and Jael, Hagar, Bathsheba, Jezebel and Ruth.
Part three, Women In The New Testament, explores the stories of women in the time of Jesus. These women are Mary of Nazareth, Mary of Magdala, Martha and Mary, the Woman of Samaria and the Crippled Woman.
