An ingenious fantasy adventure set in contemporary suburban America, where a secret Eighth Day exists. After an all-out war with the evil Kin lord in Mexico, Jax Aubrey returns to Pennsylvania with his guardian, Riley, and liege lady, Evangeline. Although they're in hiding, a man named Finn Ambrose tracks them down, claiming to be Jax's uncle and giving Jax hope that he has a family after all. But Uncle Finn isn't the kind of relative Jax was expecting to find. As it turns out, Finn is related to Ursula Dulac-the reigning leader of the corrupt Transitioner clan-and by extension that means Jax is, too. Related to a Dulac? The Dulacs want to capture Evangeline to ensure that no Kin can use her to reverse the Eight-Day spell first. And to prove just what kind of clan they are, they kidnap Jax's best friend Billy in order to lure Jax-and hopefully Evangeline-to New York. To keep everyone else out of the fray and get Billy back, Jax ventures to Manhattan by himself. There, he meets his Uncle Finn, cousin Dorian, and the rest of his relatives. Underneath his family's apartment building, Jax stumbles upon a maze of magic tunnels that leads to some alarming discoveries...all of which spell danger for his friends. Jax is faced with an impossible choice: go up against the only real blood-relatives he has, or save the people who have come to mean more than family-Riley and Evangeline.
